What will happen to my medical care in the event of a pandemic?

Goodwood Court and The Eaton Centre have plans in place to ensure that everything possible will be done to ensure that necessary healthcare is given to our patients during any emergency.  While this may not include some of the "preventative" checks or interventions, you will still be able to consult with a doctor/nurse and also will be able to receive your prescriptions.

Up to date information will be posted on our website and on posters outside our surgeries

In the event of a pandemic it will be essential to limit face to face contact as much as possible - hence

1: Access to our surgery premises will be strictly controlled - doors will only be unlocked to allow authorised persons to enter - hence all contact should initially be by telephone or email.

2: If access is allowed, you will be required to wear a mask (which we will provide) and ensure that hands are cleaned with alcohol prior to entry

3: Prescriptions will be collected from the surgeries by the pharmacies - it will not be appropriate for patients to attend surgery to collect a repeat prescription and hence risk spreading disease.  Pharmacies may be limited to one or two high street pharmacies as they will also be overworked.  You will be able to request your prescription "on line" or by a note through our letter box.

4: Patients with high blood pressure will be encouraged to submit their own blood pressure readings at the time of requesting medication - we have previously offered all our hypertensive patients a blood pressure machine and that supply is now exhausted. If you have not got one, then effective machines can be purchased from most supermarkets for around £10. If you have difficulty affording a machine, then please ask us for information about whether we can provide you with one.

5: Patients under review for other medical reasons who do not need face to face contact will be offered a telephone consultation at a set time with a doctor.

6: Routine cervical smears and contraceptive services will be suspended unless it is deemed clinically necessary to see the patient - again initial telephone consultation will be made with one of our nurses.

7: For all "new" medical problems unrelated to influenza, then details will be taken by a receptionist who will pass the information on to a medical practitioner or who will arrange a telephone consultation. If it is deemed necessary to see the patient in person, then an appropriate appointment will be made.

8: If you are asked to attend the premises - you are requested to attend "ON YOUR OWN" unless you truly need assistance or you are a child. This is to decrease the risk of person-to-person transfer of influenza.

9: in the event of our staff becoming unwell, one or the other of our two surgeries may not be staffed. Please ensure that you telephone 08444770925 at all times during a period of pandemic.

10: Those suffering from Influenza will be able to phone the national FLU LINE for advice when this is brought into operation by the Government.

WHAT TO DO NOW:

1: Obtain a log-on and password for our computerised appointment and repeat prescription service

2: Ensure that you have at least one week of medication "in hand" at all times if you are on regular medications

3: Let us have your contact information by clicking on this data entry key

4: Ensure that you have a supply of "homely" remedies such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, loperamide

5: Ensure that you have a stock of long-life foods in case you are confined to your home for a week or so

6: Keep a watch on our website for latest information
