Goodwood Court is open from 8am Monday to Friday and does not close at lunchtime. The Eaton Centre is open from 9am and will close at the end of morning surgery or 1pm whichever is the later. Full practice nursing services, family planning, midwifery and child health care are available, and our dedicated reception staff are trained to assist you in making the most of our many services. However owing to workload we cannot tolerate wasted appointments. Please arrive on time and if you cannot make your appointment, please phone to advise us. Repeated failure to attend booked appointments will result in removal of your name from our lists NHS medical registration is free of charge - please complete the appropriate registration documentation which is either enclosed with this booklet or available on request. Registration is limited to those residing within the BN3 postcode area. You may request to see a specific practitioner other than the doctor with whom you are registered if appropriate to your needs – please advise when booking.
Appo Our Medical Practice is committed to offering you an appointment within 48 hours with a doctor if you have a problem. You may request to see any of the doctors or nurses within our team, but we do encourage you to try and stay with one medical practitioner in order to build up a knowledge of your health needs. Home visits may be made - however this will be depend on the agreement of the doctor to provide this service if he/she feels it appropriate. Our website offers you the ability to book appointments 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A user name and password will be required. Please ask at reception or contact us via the website for password/user name. We want to offer you the best in all-round health care, and we welcome your comments and suggestions which influence our policies. Comment and Complaint forms are available for completion. Regular medications may be ordered by submitting the computer generated request slip and will be available by 8am if ordered before 6pm – You may collect in person or provide a SAE. A copy of our repeat prescribing guidance is available on request. Please note that all prescriptions are issued personally by one of the Doctors and close watch is kept to ensure that medicines are still appropriate to your needs. We do not rely on reception staff issuing prescriptions for signature by a doctor. Calls may be taken at other times but it may be necessary to leave a message. Health Information is available from our Office on a wide variety of matters. There is also a considerable amount of information on our website (www.goodwoodcourt.org) or from NHSdirect Should you wish to make use of our special medical information service which collates appropriate factual information about specific medical problems, then we would be happy to process your request -please allow a few days and provide us with a pre-stamped large (to take A4 sized paper) envelope. The practice operates under the Freedom of Information Act and respects fully patient confidentialityTeaching The practitioners often have attached trainee doctors, nurses and pharmacists who come to learn the presentation and
management of disease. We will advise you if such a student is involved in your
consultation and you have the absolute right to request that such a student
should not attend your consultation
Complementary Medicine. The Practitioners at Goodwood Court Medical Centre are sympathetic to Complementary Medicine, and you may be offered such as a means or adjunct to your treatmentOutside office hours, medical care is provided by another service - South East Health - you should first check that the practice is not open by phoning 0844 477 0925. If closed, phone 0845 456 5420 for medical advice for URGENT problems out of hours. If you attend for an appointment outside normal office opening hours, the door will be locked and you should gain access by using the intercom which is situated by the front door of the surgery. Comments and Complaints may be made in writing by completing one of our special comment forms, alternatively please write to Dr Higson. We operate the NHS complaints procedure. Nursing Services Our practice nurses undertake dressings, injections, blood testing, cervical screening, family planning advice, chronic disease management; cardiac risk screening and much much more. You can book directly to see a nurse if you feel that she can provide the care that you need. Sister Debby Whittington RGN BSc(Hons) Dip PPNSister Debby trained at the Brighton School of Nursing and also works part-time for the Gynaecology Team at Worthing Hospital. She has undertaken specific training in family planning and is responsible for developing the Women's Health services at Goodwood Court Medical Centre. Debby has recently gained a postgraduate degree in Nursing Studies Sister Alyson Shaw SRN Diploma in DiabetesAlyson has joined our team and undertakes the full range of primary care nursing procedures. Alyson is based at The Eaton Centre for three sessions a week Vaccinations however are not undertaken at The Eaton Centre. Some health care provision may be provided by our Health Care Assistants, Ms Debbie Miller or Ms Ann Long, who although trained in specific technical processes and management of certain chronic diseases, may not be able to answer all your questions and will refer you back to the appropriate Nurse or Doctor. Health Care Assistants Debbie Miller and Ann Long provide technical assessments for our patients - blood pressure monitoring, respiratory function testing, electrocardiography, osteoporosis screening, weight management and smoking cessation. Debbie Miller also takes most of the blood samples in the practice! Appointments can be made for these services by contacting reception Midwifery
We provide a comprehensive and flexible maternity and obstetric care service from Goodwood Court Medical Centre and all such patients receive a comprehensive pack of information to enable them to make appropriate choices of care. Health Visitors Health Visitors employed by SouthDowns NHS Trust provide health visiting services to all our patients. Owing to room constraints, they are not based at Goodwood Court Medical Centre but can be contacted through the local community clinic at Conway Court, Clarendon Road, Hove or by telephone on 728281. Regular baby clinics are held at Conway Court on Thursday afternoons between 2pm and 3.30pm. Over 75s and infrequent attenders We aim to see all our more elderly patients annually and we also advise our infrequent attenders to have a health assessment at least every three years. If you feel you need to be seen, ask for an appointment with your doctor or with our Health Care Assistant by telephoning the appropriate surgery Other Practitioners working at Goodwood Court Medical Centre
These therapies are not available on the National Health Service through the practitioners at Goodwood Court. You are advised to check on costs and fees in advance of agreement to treatment.
Registering elsewhere If you wish to seek registration with another primary care practice, details of primary care services may be obtained from the Brighton and Hove PCT, NHS UK ( www.nhs.uk) or phoning 01273 485300 (primary care support services for East Sussex)Medical Records We aim to provide all patients new to the practice with a copy of the major "summary" conditions which are present in their medical records obtained from previous practices - this enables patients to check that the information that we have is accurate.
We do not release medical information to other persons without your written consent. If we receive a request for information we will attempt to contact you, whether or not you have already given consent, in order that you have the opportunity to check the information that we will be sending to the other party. Confidentiality is maintained and the practice acts in accordance with the Caldicott report. Caldicott Guardian is Dr N Higson. For information on Freedom of Information act: FOI The practice is "paper-light" which means that all incoming communications are scanned onto the computer and linked to the computer record for the patient. Such paper communications are then shredded (secure shredding) once the computer record has been "backed-up" five times. Old paper records, once important historical information is entered onto our computer system, are stored away from the main surgery and can be accessed for information if necessary. When a patient leaves our practice for another medical practice, a full print-out of the electronic record and all attached letters etc is sent alongside any historic records by a NHS courier service. Quality Monitoring We undertake an annual survey of our patients and results are available on our website Feedback Results or from reception. The practice is subject to assessment by the Brighton and Hove Primary Care Trust and the Health Service Commission. All doctors and nurses have an annual appraisal and revalidation as required by their professional body. All medical equipment is services or checked for accuracy on an annual basis and all electrical equipment is tested for electrical safety.Our Infection Control Champion is Sister Elaine Practice Management We do not have a practice manager or practice secretary. Our reception staff will advise you of the appropriate person to deal with any enquiry Non-NHS services There are a number of services that we are asked to provide which are not covered by our NHS contract. For these a charge will be raised. Such services include such services as driving medical examinations, signing forms and passports , witnessing legal documents and some travel services. A list of our charges is available at reception. |
